A Walk Through Downtown Houston
As I walked the streets of downtown, looking for reflections of clouds on the façades of the glass and steel behemoths, I was overjoyed to find something even better. A fleeting interplay of architecture and light, the windows of one building became the canvas for another’s distorted and illusory reflection, creating an evocative fusion of color and shape. Structures seem to bend, twist, and meld into one another’s patterns, forming a rich tapestry of color, while breathing life into the cold steel and glass.
The reflections are authored by the structures, time of year, time of day, weather and my exact position. Six inches in another direction results in a wholly different image, creating endless possibilities in one small space. Several visits to the same location offer new delights. The wisdom of the windows: others see the same situation from a different angle, resulting in a different view of what seems to be a single reality.
This collection is not just about buildings; it’s about the spaces in between, the moments when the city’s towering giants pause to reflect on and interact with one another, about respecting different views. Additionally, these images remind us that reality is evanescent- that our own experiences must be savored in the moment- before the moment is gone.
I encourage you to see beyond the ordinary, to appreciate the “hidden” beauty all around you. Lift your eyes beyond your screen and internal struggles – enjoy what the world has to offer. Appreciate your own canvas of endless possibilities.
Enjoy, collect, and share!
